Topsoil, compost, sand, river rock and crusher run each do a different job. Here is what they are for and how much to order.
Landscape projects depend on materials that are easy to confuse. Topsoil fills low spots and gives a base for lawns and beds. Compost improves soil structure and feeds plants. Sand and gravel help drainage, with river rock for decorative beds and dry creeks, pea gravel for paths, washed stone for drains and crusher run for compacted bases under patios and walls. Each does a job, and using the wrong one wastes money.
Quantity matters, too. Materials are sold by the cubic yard, and covering an area at the right depth takes more than most people expect. One cubic yard covers about one hundred square feet at three inches deep. We use measurements and a calculator to estimate your needs, and we deliver and spread the material. We also explain how to protect it from washing away, such as covering topsoil with seed and straw or sod.
